Talkeetna man dies in tanker collision on Parks Highway north of Trapper Creek A deadly crash involving two commercial vehicles closed the Parks Highway north of Trapper Creek for hours, with Alaska State Troopers keeping the road closed into Thursday evening. Troopers wrote in an online dispatch that the collision between a northbound fuel tanker and a southbound empty methane tanker occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. Northbound and Southbound travel on the Parks Highway was stopped until 8 p.m. when crews were finally able to reopen the roadway. "Based on a preliminary investigation, Troopers determined that an empty methane tanker was traveling southbound when the driver lost control while navigating a corner," troopers wrote. "The empty methane tanker collided with a fuel tanker that was traveling northbound. The driver, and sole occupant, of the fuel tanker, 67-year-old Talkeetna resident David Hope was declared deceased at the scene." KTUU-TV NBC 2 ANCHORAGE PREVIOUS STATE NEWS |

VIDEO: Multiple crews battle massive fire at southeast Indiana farming co-op Multiple departments battled a massive fire in Dillsboro, Indiana, Thursday evening. According to officials, the fire started around 4:35 p.m. on U.S. 50 at Laughery Valley AG, a farming co-op. Area residents said the plant usually closes around 4:30 every day. More than 10 fire departments have responded to the scene. Dillsboro EMS tells WLWT plant workers were able to make it out of the building in time. Officials said there are no injuries reported at this time. Officials said crews battled the flames for close to six hours. Now, teams are on scene going through the debris of what's left. Emergency crews closed westbound lanes on US-50 for public safety while they worked to put out the flames. "When I arrived, it had a heavy smoke coming out of the building, flames coming out of the middle of it as well. At that point, it was basically just trying to get resources here to help contain this fire," Dillsboro fire Chief Jason Sullivan said. WLWT-TV NBC 5 CINCINNATI Two female New York firefighters make history PHOTOS: Two city firefighters make history as they become the first women to be appointed as fire investigators in the history of the Buffalo Fire Department. City fire leaders, firefighters, and firefighter families gathered at ECC's downtown campus Thursday afternoon to celebrate a round of promotions and appointments. Two women firefighters moved up in the ranks as they were appointed Buffalo Fire marshals. Latoya Horton, a six-year veteran, and Elizabeth Manna, with more than 13 years of experience are ready for the new duties. "We now respond to the scene with a different eye. We investigate the scene. We look potentially how it started areas of origin," Manna replied. WKBW-TV ABC 7 BUFFALO North Carolina fire department hires full-time psychologist, among the first fire departments in the state to do so First responders face traumatic experiences and emergencies everyday. "Those sights and sounds stick with us throughout our life, so the more those build up, the more sometimes it starts to wear on us," said Northern Wake Fire Dept. Chaplain and Firefighter Lauren Deer. When Deer came back from her first fatality call, she didn't know how to handle it. That experience led her to becoming the fire chaplain for the Northern Wake Fire Dept. Deer spends time building relationships with firefighters, leading conversations after major incidents and connecting firefighters to mental health resources. According to a 2021 CDC blog, firefighters are more likely to die by suicide than in the line of duty. "I think the most important thing is just support from the chiefs of the department and for the firefighters to know that their department cares about them," Deer said. WNCN-TV CBS 17 GOLDSBORO New Jersey fire department swears in 21 new firefighters, bringing total to 682 "We have a distinguished, prestigious, and proud fire department, which is visible in the heroic actions of our firefighters every single day," Mayor Steven Fulop said at the ceremony. "Being a firefighter is a difficult job and I want to thank the 21 new firefighters as you raise your hand today and take the Oath of Office to join the best fire department in the state." The newest firefighters will be spread throughout the city's 28 fire companies located citywide. The JCFD averages approximately 14,000 emergency responses per year. "This past summer, we grew the number of Fire Companies from 26 to 28 for the first time since the 1930s, and our new firefighters will be assigned to firehouses spanning the City to further enhance fire protection," added JCFD Chief Steven McGill. HUDSON COUNTY VIEW Florida firefighters surprise 11-year-old boy they helped to deliver a decade earlier VIDEO: Firefighters in Deltona, Florida made a special visit Thursday to the home of a boy they helped deliver 11 years ago. Susan Rubi credits the paramedics for saving her son Jacks' life after she unexpectedly went into labor at 26 weeks. "Doing what they did especially as fast as they did we wouldn't have had him today," she said. The first responders surprised Jacks with gifts. They tell FOX35 the last time they saw him they were cutting the umbilical cord and doing CPR. "We had to cut the cord and then do CPR and take him off to the hospital we were able to get pulses back and breathing," said first responder Aaron Payler.
