| Napakiak man found dead after succumbing to elements, troopers say A man died after falling through ice near the Southwest Alaska village of Napakiak, troopers say. According to an online dispatch, Napakiak Search and Rescue were attempting to locate 31-year-old Charles Lupie of Napakiak after he had gone missing. "Charles appeared to have fallen through the ice, self-recovered, but then succumbed to the elements while walking toward Bethel," troopers wrote. Troopers added that they drove snowmachines to the area and took Lupie's body to Bethel, and noted that the investigation "does not appear to be criminal at this time." | VIDEO: Investigators working to determine cause of furniture factory fire in New York The Jamestown Fire and Police departments are looking into what caused the former Crawfords Furniture Factory to go up in flames on Wednesday. Jamestown Mayor Eddie Sundquist says the old building on Allen Street started on fire some time around 11:30 a.m. Jamestown Deputy Fire Chief Matthew Coon says the building went up in flames quickly and forced crews from multiple fire departments in Chautauqua County to help. He added it's one of the top 10, biggest fires that he's ever seen in his career. 2 On Your Side has also learned the building was being used for storage, so there was a lot to burn inside. "As things have unfolded, the building did collapse as a result of the fire. As the incident progressed along now, we're starting to scale back our operation a bit and trying to get in and mop up some hot spots and certainly have a plan to mitigate this as we work through the night and into tomorrow," Coon said. The City of Tulsa Arts Commission chose artist Joe Norman and the National Sculptors' Guild for this $48,000 project. According to the National Sculptors' Guild, this sculpture is intended to "activate the site and signify the exemplary service of firefighters in a single, free-standing sculpture." According to the National Sculptors' Guild, the stainless steel sculpture, titled "Protect," is six feet tall, and the title written in red lettering is visible from one direction. From two other sides a gray silhouette of a firefighter is visible. And from the final side, opposite "Protect," is "an abstraction, symbolic of the unknowns that firefighters face." "The Arts Commission is very impressed with this artist," Commission Chair Pam Deatherage said. KOKI-TV FOX 23 TULSA Ram heavy-duty diesel pickups recalled for engine fire risk Stellantis is recalling nearly 250,000 heavy duty diesel Ram pickup trucks in the U.S. because transmission fluid can leak and cause engine fires. The recall covers certain 2020 to 2023 Ram 2500 and some 2020 through 2022 Ram 3500 trucks. All have 6.7-liter Cummins diesel engines and 68RFE transmissions. The company says heat and pressure can build up in the transmission, expelling fluid from the dipstick tube. If the fluid hits a hot engine part, that can touch of a fire. Stellantis, formerly Fiat Chrysler, is still developing a repair. In the meantime the company says owners can still drive the trucks but drivers should contact a dealer if they see a dashboard warning light. The company says it has 16 reports of fires and 48 complaints, field reports and warranty claims due to the problem. It's aware of one minor injury caused by the issue. At the Quinn Fire Academy Wednesday morning, firefighters showed how quickly a deep-fried turkey can start a fire if not handled correctly. Every year, fires are started when home cooks overlook safety, fire officials say. Having too much oil in the fryer can cause big flames that can get out of control, burning down garages, porches and houses, and injuring people. "First, to test it out, you want to take your fryer and you want to fill it with water and then lower your turkey in to find out where you should mark it off so that it will be covered, but not overflow," Fire Commissioner Annette Nance-Holt said. "After that, you want to take your turkey out, you want to pour out the water and dry out the fryer and then add your oil as needed." WFLD-TV FOX 32 CHICAGO New FDA warning links cough medicine to rise in child poisonings Parents and medical providers are being called on to be careful with prescription cough medication as overdoses among children are on the rise. Calls to poison control centers in the United States reporting the ingestion of prescription cough medicine by children rose by 158% between 2010 and 2018, according to a study published Tuesday by the Food and Drug Administration. The study, published in the journal Pediatrics, found that pediatric poisonings involving the drug benzonatate, sold under the brand name Tessalon, have increased each year. Most cases of unintentional exposures involved children 5 and under, according to the study. Benzonatate is used as a cough relief for people ages 10 and older.
