Monday evening, fire crews continued to make good progress towards containment on the Ridgetop Fire (#117) with help from multiple retardant drops, helicopter support and paracargo drops to assist the firefighters on the ground. The Parks Highway remains open with no factor to the public on the highway corridor. However, the public is reminded to slow down and drive with extreme caution as fire crews and fire apparatus may be encountered between mile post 254 and 255 as firefighters access the fire area and staging area. In addition to the visible ground resources, aviation resources may be seen flying over the highway as they conduct aerial operations. The Ridgetop Fire (#117) was human caused and is currently under investigation. One outbuilding has been confirmed to be destroyed due to the fire.

PHOTOS: One hundred firefighters battled a fire at a vacant warehouse in Louisville's Smoketown neighborhood. Heavy black smoke could be seen billowing into the sky when the fire was reported around 4:22 p.m. Monday at the intersection of South Jackson and East Caldwell streets. Louisville Fire Battalion Chief Maj. Bobby Cooper said crews were on scene within two minutes to battle the fire at the four-story, 60,000-square-foot building. Cooper said crews attempted to enter the warehouse to fight the fire from the inside, but were quickly evacuated "because of the conditions of the building," including its age. Shortly after crews were evacuated, the front of the building collapsed, Cooper said, as they hit a third alarm fire. In total, 25 fire apparatus were deployed and 100 firefighters were on scene, Cooper said.

It happens after all the big fires — the Nashville Fire Department calls a news conference and gives tips on ways to prevent this from happening again. "Turning off that stove, not grilling within 10 feet of a home, or not grilling on that balcony patio," said Kendra Loney, Public Information Officer for NFD. But inevitably, a similar fire happens again. "There was indeed a kitchen fire, with flames and smoke, coming from the roof area," said Loney. Sure enough, Sunday afternoon while Station One was cooking dinner, they got a call about an apartment fire in their district. "Our firefighters are responding to those tones as soon as they go off," she said. That call ended up being a bust. Then came another one with a familiar address—the address of the fire station itself.

VIDEO/PHOTOS: The community relies on its first responders to save lives in an emergency. Remaining calm during chaotic situations is imperative and it's a skill being taught at a first-of-its-kind training for the Washington metro region. As a Level 1 trauma center, the ambulance bay for the emergency room at Inova Fairfax Hospital is always busy. Paramedics bring in patients and often fire and police vehicles are parked in the lot. While that is a common sight, seeing more than 100 first responders pass through the doors of Inova's Advanced Surgical Technology Education Center (ASTEC), was a new and welcomed change. 7News Health and Wellness Reporter Victoria Sanchez was given exclusive access to follow along with a first-of-its-kind training to teach paramedics how to treat trauma patients in the field and give them a better chance at surviving.

Gary Weiland vowed that his leg amputation wouldn't be his end. The Denton firefighter went in for partial knee replacement surgery in 2018, where complications during the operation resulted in the decision to amputate his left leg to save his body. And just like that, Weiland's entire life changed. "I made the decision pretty early on that this wasn't going to beat me," Weiland said. "I was going to do whatever it took to get back to fighting fire." Weiland, 43, has made it his life's goal to share his story and show that people can adapt and overcome any obstacle. To prove his point, he was back in the Denton Fire Department station just a short 10 months after losing his leg. Since then, Weiland has become a motivational speaker, USA Para Beach Volleyball player and even tried his luck on "American Ninja Warrior." Twice.

Hennepin EMS will now carry Suboxone, a drug effective in treating opioid withdrawal symptoms, in its ambulances. Dr. Nicholas Simpson, an emergency and Hennepin EMS physician, highlighted this step as significant for patients experiencing opioid withdrawal after they are administered naloxone, the antidote that reverses opioid overdoses. According to figures from Hennepin Healthcare, Hennepin EMS has attended to over 1,000 patients needing naloxone to counteract an overdose in the last six months. "Patients who have experienced an overdose may have an opportunity to start this treatment while in the care of Hennepin EMS. After they have started treatment, it is much easier to get into a clinic and maintain this therapy," Simpson said in a press release from Hennepin County Healthcare.
