| Capital City Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire in Juneau's Mendenhall Valley At approximately 2:27 a.m., Capital City Fire Rescue responded to the 8400 block of Nugget Drive in the Mendenhall Valley for a residential structure fire. Upon arrival, the fire was found on the exterior of a double-wide manufactured home. The structure had multiple additions built onto it and was abandoned. The fire was able to breach many concealed spaces making suppression very difficult, and the integrity of the roof was compromised making unsafe conditions for fire personnel to gain an advantage from above the fire area. This fire is being investigated as an intentional set fire. Anyone with information is asked to contact Assistant Chief Daniel Jager at 586-5322 ext. 4323. KINY-AM 800/FM 94.9 JUNEAU Hiker rescued from Juneau Falls in Cooper Landing Good Samaritans rescued a hiker and dog stuck in the ravine below Juneau Falls on Resurrection Creek Trail in Cooper Landing on Sunday evening. Emergency services got a report of a hiker in trouble at 5:12 p.m. Sunday. The caller and her boyfriend were hiking Res Pass Trail. One of their dogs went off trail and got stuck down below the falls. The caller's boyfriend tried to rescue the dog, but couldn't get himself back out of the ravine. The caller ran toward the trailhead on the Sterling Highway to get cell reception to call for help. Cooper Landing Emergency Services responded, along with two Forest Service law enforcement officers. "We were in the process of deploying our trail equipment to get to the person, and dispatch called us and told us that some other hikers along the trail had got together and helped the guy out and got him back up to the trail and the dog showed up, so everybody made it out OK," said Michael Hawley, an EMT2 firefighter with CLES. | VIDEO: Massive fire destroys old factory in Michigan, four firefighters injured PHOTOS: Several firefighters were injured Tuesday afternoon when a fire destroyed a large vacant factory near the Jackson County Fairgrounds. Fire crews responded at about noon Aug. 22, to the commercial building near the intersection of W. North and Hamilton streets, north of the Armory Arts complex, in the city of Jackson. Heavy flames were coming from the building upon their arrival, City of Jackson Spokesman Aaron Dimick said. Given the size and location of the fire, an all-call alarm was sent out countywide for additional assistance, resulting in crews from every fire station in Jackson County arriving a the scene, as well as one crew from the Chelsea Area Fire Authority in Washtenaw County, Dimick said. Viewing the damage from the street, the roof of the building caved in and a large portion of a brick wall collapsed and crumbled onto North Street. Now Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is better prepared for the unexpected. Atlanta cut the ribbon on the nation's first on-site airport triage center. It'a essentially an entire health clinic, right in the heart of the airport. "In addition to providing low-acuity medical support, the center can do high-level diagnosis using point-of-care blood testing, ultrasounds and cardiac monitoring," Fire Chief Rod Smith said. Airport officials say they transport around 2,000 people to emergency rooms each year. The center could help reduce that number while still providing adequate medical care.
