| Follow Up: Iconic Two Rivers Lodge burns as investigation into string of arsons continues The Two Rivers Lodge east of Fairbanks burned in the early morning hours of Monday, amid a string of still-unsolved arsons in the Two Rivers-Pleasant Valley area this summer. So far, public safety officials have not said arson caused the fire at the lodge, seen completely engulfed in flames a little after midnight in videos on social media. But fire marshals are investigating nine other structures that have burned in the area that they say were intentionally set. | 7 firefighters hurt battling multi-alarm house fire in New Jersey A fifth alarm that burned through two Jersey City homes brought down a live power line on firefighters, injuring seven of them. The fire broke out between the Irving Street homes just before 3 a.m. this morning and quickly spread. As firefighters arrived, an energized power line came down on their fire truck, shocking at least four firefighters and a captain. "They were either in the truck or near the truck. they were close enough where they had minor electrical shock," Jersey City Fire Chief Steven McGill said. In all, seven firefighters were taken to Jersey City Medical Center, all with non-life-threatening injuries. Eighteen residents from six families were left homeless by the flames, which forced many to flee in the middle of the night. WABC-TV ABC 7 NEW YORK At least 5 aircrafts have landed on freeways in California since 2013 VIDEO/PHOTOS: At least five planes have made emergency landings on San Diego-area freeways in recent years, resulting in one death, multiple injuries and various amounts of damage. The latest came Tuesday when a single-engine Piper PA-32 landed shortly after noon on Interstate 5 east of the Del Mar Fairgrounds, hitting a Kia sedan and losing part of a wing after it became lodged in the back of an Audi SUV. Two people in vehicles that were hit suffered minor injuries, but the pilot and passenger of the plane walked away uninjured, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA is investigating to determine what led the pilot to land on the freeway. Four other incidents involving planes have been reported since 2013 throughout San Diego County. Mayor Kelly's budget is currently under review, and one measure focuses on a 24% salary increase for fire cadets. Right now, the starting salary is $32,524 . The increase would bump it up to $40,330. It's an increase that firefighters say is sorely needed. One firefighter described a life stretched thin, especially as a single parent: "As a beginning firefighter I was making $32,000 a year with 2 children. My house payment was roughly $800 a month, I had no car payment, only insurance and gas. The only luxury I afforded my children was a Comcast subscription, so they could watch children shows. While it may seem that these expenses do not amount to much, after ever rising family health insurance premiums, taxes, and pension payments, after all that is taken out it leaves very little to stretch to your other bills."
