ALB Korea Law Awards once again celebrates country’s legal industry

The seventh edition of the ALB Korea Law Awards, held on Nov. 15 at Conrad Seoul, once again proved to be a grand success as it showcased the best of the country’s legal industry.

Kim & Chang walked away with six awards, the biggest haul of the night. The titles included the big one of the Refinitiv Award Korea Law Firm of the Year, along with the Korea Intellectual Property Law Firm of the Year and the Managing Partner of the Year (for Kye Sung Chung).

SoftBank Corp has announced plans to merge internet subsidiary Yahoo Japan with Korean messaging app operator Line Corp to create a $30 billion tech group, as it strives to compete more effectively with local rival Rakuten and U.S. tech powerhouses.

Carey Olsen hires Harneys’ Singapore MP as Asia lit head

Channel Islands law firm Carey Olsen has hired litigator James Noble in Singapore to lead the firm’s litigation, insolvency and restructuring practice in Asia. Noble joins from offshore rival Harneys, where he was the managing partner of the Singapore office.
