Today, GCs are expected to go even further by utilizing their understanding of the business and the industry to set a direction for the company as a whole. Disputes work for offshore law firms has been rising steadily over the past few years, particularly in Asia, where there is an increased demand for offshore litigation services. Recent changes to Indonesia's revised Negative Investment List have largely been positive, with relaxation being the primary theme. We speak to law firms within Indonesia as well as those representing foreign investors on some of the key changes and their likely impact.

FEATURE: TAX 

Recently India and Mauritius signed a protocol to amend their 33-year-old tax treaty, causing seismic changes in the tax world. The change is significant for foreign investors to go back to the drawing board and reassess their structures. We speak to lawyers doing India work on the impact that they expect it to have.

REPORT: JAPAN

Last year, Japan unveiled an energy plan for 2030, by which time it wants to significantly ramp up its renewable energy component, which has crashed to a small percentage today following the Fukushima disaster. We speak with law firms about the framework currently in place, and how domestic and international companies are getting into the space.

FEATURE: AUSSIE FIRMS

The recent conclusion of several free trade agreements – including the Trans-Pacific Partnership, Korea-Australia Free Trade Agreement and Japan-Australia Economic Partnership Agreement – are expected to open Asian markets to Australian law firms. While a handful of Australian firms are already here, are others looking to make the leap? We speak to firms to find out.
