Still, companies need to factor in political risk into their compliance programs, including screening potential partners who may be politically exposed persons, and also taking account the political exposures that apply to certain industries. | FEATURE: CYBERSECURITY As of last year, more than 100 law firms in the U.S. alone had experienced a significant cyber breach, potentially expose the employee data of these firms and also exposing the confidential information of their massive global clients. However, given that law firm budgets for IT and infrastructure are tight, organisations need to look seriously at migrating their systems to the cloud, as their clients already have. |

We speak to lawyers and arbitration centres about these initiatives, as well as the experiences so far. | REPORT: MALAYSIA A survey from the Bar Council of Malaysia titled “The Effects of the Movement Control Order (MCO) on Law Firm Owners of the Malaysian Bar” has found that the pandemic has had a severe impact on the country’s legal industry, with 8 percent contemplating ceasing practice altogether, and nearly a third expecting to incur losses of between 100,000 and 500,000 ringgit ($23,000 to $115,000) between March and September 2020, while 29.5% of respondents. | REPORT: UAE The United Arab Emirates recently confirmed its updated Positive List of 122 economic sectors and activities in which 100 percent foreign ownership is permissible. The implementation of the Positive List is expected to encourage diversification in the economy, promote further inward investment and create jobs.
