ALB is once again spotlighting its list of Firms To Watch, firms that are small but are already making waves, and either challenging (or with the potential to challenge) much larger law firms for their share of the work.

FEATURE: OFFSHORE

As legal technology rapidly changes the work is done in the industry, offshore firms are no different in embracing the new trends. We look at the kinds of technology offshore firms are using now, and how it is helping them serve clients better.

REPORT: PHILIPPINES

Last month, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte signed into law a 3.8 trillion peso spending plan for 2018, an increase of more than 12 percent over the previous year. We speak to lawyers about the work they are seeing, and can expect to see.

Plus: We look at the potential impact of the recently passed TRAIN (tax reform) law.

FEATURE: CAPITAL MARKETS

HKEX is keen to capture more of the high tech company IPOs coming out of China. To do so, it is looking change its rules which have been based on the fundamental right of each shareholder to have one vote for each share owned, by offering dual class share structures. We talk to lawyers about the impact this will have.

Plus: The HK stock exchange has set the bar higher with its minimum listing requirements for the main board, and will implement reforms for the GEM board in February. What impact will this have?

REPORT: INDONESIA

Last month, Indonesia announced that it had received bids from several foreign companies for exploration in five oil and gas blocks in 2017, marking an uptick in interest compared with previous years. We look at what this means for the oil and gas industry.

Plus: Although the government offered tax incentives to investors in 2017, there were almost no takers. We look at the tax reform situation, and what more can be done.

FEATURE: RECRUITMENT

In the ALB In-house Survey 2018, 45 percent of respondents said that companies were looking to increase the size of their in-house teams this year. We speak to recruiters as well as senior in-house counsel about what kinds of companies are doing the most hiring, and what kind of skills they are seeking in their hires.
