FEATURE: ALSPS

The past few years have seen clients turn to non-legal service providers in a big way as clients look for effective solutions to their portfolio of legal work. We delve deeper into the increasing diversity of alternative legal services providers (ALSPs) that are assisting in-house departments in the most effective and cost-efficient way possible.

FEATURE: COMPETITION LAW

Competition laws within the region are developing rapidly. Clampdowns on abusive activity are more frequent, while enforcement agencies are communicating more across borders to assist their investigations. There has never been a greater need for investors to strengthen compliance and update on laws across the region. We look at the landscape in certain key jurisdictions, and what companies need to keep in mind.

IN-HOUSE FEATURE: M&A

A purchase or sale of a company throws up a number complex and time-consuming issues, with the in-house team playing an important role to make sure things go smoothly. We look at some of key strategic, negotiating, and diligence considerations involved in these deals, and what steps in-house counsel can take to better prepare for them.

REPORT: INDONESIA

Indonesia’s e-commerce business has been steadily robust in the last few years. There are now more than 1,700 start-up companies there, making the country home to the world’s fourth-largest number of start-up firms. It also has given birth to four “unicorns” in Go-Jek, Tokopedia, Bukalapak and Traveloka. We look at what this means in terms of legal work for firms instead and outside Indonesia.

REPORT: THAILAND

Thailand's REIT industry is growing rapidly. Over the past four years, REIT IPOs in Southeast Asia raised a combined $5.4 billion, with more than a third ($1.9 billion) coming from Thailand alone. We look at the legal landscape around Thai REITs, and what kind of work lawyers are doing.

FEATURE: PRACTICE MANAGEMENT

While lawyers tend to focus more on the practice of law, in the face of stiff competition, firms need to now take seriously functions like sales, marketing and business development. We look at how certain key firms are beginning to bulk up their BD and marketing teams, some of their best practices, and what this means for the industry going forward.
