The 7th annual ALB Indonesia Law Awards, a virtual event held on Oct. 8, celebrated the standout lawyers, firms, in-house teams and legal work in the country.

HHP Law Firm won the highest number of awards on the night, its haul of seven including Dispute Resolution Lawyer of the Year for Andi Yusuf Kadir, Young Lawyer of the Year for Mahardikha Sardjana, Indonesia Deal Firm of the Year and the coveted title of Indonesia Law Firm of the Year.

Skadden, Latham advise on $6 bln merger of Chinese live game streaming firms Huya, DouYu

Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom has advised China’s Huya on agreement to buy live game streaming peer DouYu International. Latham & Watkins has represented Tencent, which is Huya’s biggest shareholder and also owns more than a third of DouYu.

Virtual hearings were not unheard of pre-2020. The family courts for years experimented with allowing counsel to appear virtually for pre-trial conferences subject to certain conditions being satisfied. Likewise the State Courts, although the response was lukewarm. Teething issues with technology for the conduct of virtual hearings were never really properly ironed out; or perhaps the inertia was because the lawyers preferred the camaraderie of bantering in person.
