Resham Ramkissoon and Vijay H. Shah ARCR is commemorating the 50th Anniversary of NIAAA with a special series of articles (Festschrift). The seventh article in this series is based on a presentation by Dr. Vijay H. Shah during a 2-day symposium celebrating NIAAAs 50th Anniversary.
Alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) remains a common and often fatal consequence of alcohol misuse and alcohol use disorder. This ARCR review summarizes the epidemiology and outcomes of ALD and describes screening, prevention, and treatment strategies for both alcohol use disorder and ALD. The authors also describe strategies to mitigate the individual and societal impacts of both conditions.
