You may have heard the story about the trader who recently turned $500 into $1 million with a new meme token called BALD.

Like most meme coins, the price of BALD has since plunged to just a hair above zero. That's because BALD is not the story. BASE is.

Base, the upcoming Layer-2 solution from Coinbase, was the application layer upon which BALD was built. And BALD is likely just the tip of the iceberg: many new app developers will be building on top of Base, which officially rolls out August 9.

This is all exciting news for Coinbase investors. Read on to find out why.

If you believe in Coinbase, this could be a great time to buy COIN stock. Because on August 9, Coinbase will officially launch their Layer-2 solution Base.

This is significant.

Before I explain why, let me confess that I bought COIN at the IPO price, at about $405. (As I write this, it’s trading at about $90.) I failed to heed my own warning that “IPO” stands for “It’s Probably Overpriced.”

Still, I remain a huge believer in Coinbase, because I am a huge believer in crypto, and I believe that Coinbase is perhaps the single best-positioned company in the world to capture the potential growth of crypto.

However, investing in Coinbase comes with some big risks. Here’s my investing thesis on COIN; I would love to hear your thoughts as well.

SEC Hears from the Public About Potential Bitcoin ETF (The Block)

Investor takeaway: A cast of characters, including a musician and a cricket player, have written to the SEC to request that it consider bitcoin for a spot ETF. This would be a massive win for the crypto community, as it would open direct investment into bitcoin as an asset like a stock, which is... a pretty big deal.

The SEC is still hesitant but, as many have pointed out, some of their concerns around fraud seem a little inconsistent in their reasoning. So this proposal is still well up in the air.
