| Moderna [MRNA] - Last Close: $190.69 New clinical data is boosting shares of Moderna. Late Tuesday, the RNA biotech firm's announced its mRNA-1345 vaccine for RSV met its primary efficacy endpoints in a late-stage ConquerRSV trial. Moderna's experimental vaccine produced an efficacy rate of 83.7% against RSV-associated lower respiratory tract disease. The company says it plans to submit the drug for regulatory approval sometime in the first half of 2023 in light of the new clinical data. MRNA is this morning's top S&P 500 stock with an 8.0% gain on active premarket trading volume. My Take: This $7.6 billion deal is getting surprisingly little publicity this morning. However, shares of NI are already trading above the proposed acquisition price. It's hard to imagine there's worthwhile upside left in this trade at this point. TC BioPharm [TCBP] - Last Close: $4.93 TC BioPharm is moving higher after a big announcement. The clinical-stage biotech entered into a strategic collaboration with The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center to study gamma-delta T cells. The collaboration will bring together MD Anderson's clinical trial infrastructure and TC BioPharm's targeted gamma-delta T cell oncology pipeline. Under the terms of the three-year agreement, the teams will work together on both preclinical and clinical studies evaluating the treatment's potential. TCBP is up 26.3% on news of the collaboration. My Take: I don't know if this upward move will have staying power, but the unusual activity in this stock is interesting. Data is limited because the stock just hit the market on Friday, but it could be worth watching closely this week. Faraday Future Intelligence Electric [FFIE] - Last Close: $0.4745 Faraday Future just landed a big deal, and shares are up on the news. The EV ecosystem firm signed a non-binding cooperation framework agreement with the Chinese City of Huanggang's local government. Under the terms of the agreement, both parties will strive to promote Faraday Future's US-China "dual-home market strategy." Faraday will also open its China HQ in Huanggang City, with joint funding from the Huanggang Government's Guide Fund. News of the agreement sent shares of FFIE to a 28.9% gain on active trading volume in today's premarket. My Take: This deal showed the market that China is a major priority for FFIE, and the expansion strategy could deliver huge returns for shareholders. Share prices have been trending higher lately, so today's rally could be a key breakout. Tricida [TCDA] - Last Close: $0.1325 Tricida is rallying today despite a recent run of bad news. The pharma firm filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last Wednesday, and, on Tuesday evening,it announced that its shares will be delisted from Nasdaq. Tricida said Nasdaq notified it of its decision after the exchange reviewed the company's recently-released bankruptcy docs. Nasdaq cited concerns regarding the residual equity interest of Tricida's listed securities and its ability to comply with all requirements. Trading of the company's stock will be suspended at the opening of business on Jan. 24th, 2023. Despite the bad news, TCDA is one of today's top premarket performers with a 33.5% gain on active premarket trading volume. My Take: I'm not sure what to make of this move, but TCDA's 19.66% short ratio could have contributed to the counterintuitive gains. This may be the result of a targeted short squeeze.
