Headlining Debuts & Performance Premieres | View in browser
Brooklyn Rider is the modern string quartet for audiences whose insatiable musical appetites match those of the four daredevils in this group. It’s impossible to even scratch the surface of what this quartet has to offer in a single performance, and we are excited to present them in three entirely different contexts this season—all performed in front of an intimate studio audience and streamed live to the world in partnership with GBH.
Their first performance highlights the formidable range of globe-spanning composers who write original works for Brooklyn Rider, including a world premiere of a new work by Osvaldo Golijov. This program will feature original works by composers from Syria, Venezuela, Argentina, and the United States, all performed with the fervent intensity and deep feeling for which the group is known.
Experience the Celebrity Series headlining debut of an artist you’ll be hearing about for decades to come. Conrad Tao is proving to be the ultimate success story, a one-time child prodigy meeting impossibly high expectations and emerging not only as a technically spectacular player, but also a significant composer, collaborator, and representative of classical music’s next wave.
Accommodating Lie is the latest full-length work by Artistic Director Rafael Palacios. A powerful call for awareness, Palacios seeks to dismantle stereotypes and beliefs, denouncing the clichés around the Black body. Embodying decades of slavery and overt racism, the dancers and musicians personify what it means to be of African descent.
Two of today’s premier ensembles join forces in a rare collaboration between string quartet and wind quintet. This spectacular evening of music will include the Boston premiere of a new work by Jessie Montgomery, co-commissioned by Celebrity Series of Boston, and written specifically for these two internationally acclaimed groups,
Barely into his 30s, Sands is a six-time GRAMMY Award nominee, widely recognized bandleader, and first-call sideman among the industry’s best. In his Celebrity Series debut, expect a varied program of modern jazz drawing from the music’s many historic roots and contemporary offshoots.
The Just and the Blind is a multimedia journey of poetry, music, dance, photograph, and projected animation, and is one of the most unique and powerfully urgent works that we’re presenting this season.
The SFJAZZ Collective is a bonafide jazz supergroup. The band will be presenting a brand-new touring project entitled “New Works Reflecting the Moment,” a collection of pieces written in response to the unparalleled social and global issues faced over the past year.
