| All Quibi Advertisers Are Taking Advantage of 'Turnstyle' Format | |
| | Some brands, like Charmin and Pepsi, are using turnstyle tech to test out new ad formats and message structures. Other turnstyle ads on Quibi repurpose creative into spots that work in both orientations. Progressive used characters from other marketing materials to develop Quibi-specific creative that was suited for the short-form format, where ads run for no longer than 15 seconds. “We didn’t have to start from scratch,” Jeff Charney, Progressive’s chief marketing officer, told Adweek. “That advantage limited most of our changes to just making sure the speed of our storytelling matched the speed of the platform.” | | | |

| | The Media Industry's Gray Tuesday | |
| | With society ground to a halt, each of us is living our own version of Groundhog Day—except when you get the word that you’ve been laid off or furloughed. On Tuesday, many in media were on one of two ends of a hard conversation: You were either told your job was no longer, or you had to inform someone that their life is getting flipped upside down. No matter which end of the conversation you were on, it’s tough. For those affected, Tuesday was a dark day. But with dark, the saying goes, comes light. And there are pockets of light. | |

| Publishers Share Bleak Outlook of COVID-19 Ad Sales Impact in New Survey | |
| | Last month, the Interactive Advertising Bureau surveyed media buyers, planners and brands about how the coronavirus pandemic had affected ad spend. They painted a grim picture of the fallout, which was seconded by a followup IAB survey, this time with publishers giving their take on the industry. Their outlook is still bleak—though slightly less so than their buy-side counterparts. There is near-unanimous agreement (98%) that ad sales revenue will be down this year, compared to original 2020 plans. | | | |

| How WSC Sports Is Helping to Keep the Action Going Without Live Games | |
| | Artificial intelligence startup WSC Sports found a niche for its technology in the form of enabling sports leagues and teams to share video highlights to social platforms minutes after they take place. But what happens when the games are put on hold? “You don’t plan for a case where the sports world will just stop,” co-founder and CEO Daniel Shichman said. But that is exactly what began to happen when news broke March 11 that Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert had tested positive for the coronavirus, setting off a chain reaction that put professional and college sports in the U.S. on indefinite hold over the next two days. | | | |

| Why Major League Soccer Is Bullish About Its Upcoming Esports Tournament | |
| | Athletes playing video games appears to be the backup plan of choice for sports companies during the coronavirus shutdown. First, iRacing took over for Formula 1 and Nascar events with impressive success. Soon after, the NBA announced an NBA 2K competition featuring top players. Now, Major League Soccer is getting involved with the most expansive gaming crossover to date. Some of the biggest stars in the MLS and international soccer will join players from eMLS, the league’s existing esports structure, to compete for five weeks in FIFA 20 in the eMLS Tournament Special, set to begin Sunday. | | | |

| Meredith Offers Extended Ad Guarantee Due to COVID-19 | |
| | As print advertising dollars continue to dry up amid COVID-19, publishers are going back to the drawing board for programs they can offer buyers to sweeten the deal. Meredith, the publisher behind magazines such as People, Better Homes & Gardens and Real Simple, will offer a new print guarantee program to advertisers who buy a minimum of five ads in two of the publisher’s brands running May through December issues, that guarantees readers will take action. Under the program, titled Meredith Audience Action Guarantee, the publisher will work with clients to determine which actions they want consumers to take after seeing their advertisements, including looking online for more information, recommending the product to someone else or considering purchasing a product. Those actions will be measured by MRI-Simmons’ Starch AdMeasure study. | | | |

| Amazon Warehouses in France to Shutter Following a Court Order | |
| | As warehouse worker-turned-advocate Chris Smalls calls on Amazon to shut down its U.S. warehouses, reports emerged today that a court order is forcing the ecommerce giant to close all six of its warehouses in France until at least April 20. Amazon confirmed it is temporarily suspending operations at its fulfillment centers in France following a court decision. A French court ruled Tuesday that Amazon must carry out a more “thorough assessment of the risk of coronavirus contagion” at its warehouses in the country, according to Reuters. In the meantime, Amazon can only deliver essential goods such as food and medical supplies, or face fines. | | | |
