Good morning,

Welcome to Monday and your daily news update from The Scotsman

Today there are some major changes as many Covid restrictions are scrapped across Scotland.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the relaxation comes due to the “steady decline in cases” and “the success of vaccination”.

As the country moves beyond level zero, nightclubs are allowed to reopen, self isolation rules are changing, and social distancing will no longer be required

But there are a handful of rules which will not be relaxed - with the guidance on facial coverings differing to the situation in England.

And a return to lockdown has not been ruled out ahead of a "challenging" winter, Health Secretary Humza Yousaf has said.
