Toussaint in, Lee out: A New Orleans music icon will replace a Confederate general on street signs lining one of the city's busiest roadways. With the City Council’s vote Thursday, Robert E. Lee Boulevard will be called Allen Toussaint Boulevard, honoring the beloved musician, producer and songwriter. The move comes as the city rethinks the names of streets, monuments and parks that honor Confederate figures and supporters of segregation. Matt Sledge has the story.
Fingers crossed: Speaking of music, after a long pause, it's been making a comeback. Keith Spera checks in with a long list of some of the acts heading this way. But, as the headline in this morning Times-Picayune blared, “Fingers Crossed.” Indeed.

Bullish on Mardi Gras: Yesterday was Carnival’s big kickoff. Parades, king cakes, costumes. And this declaration from Mayor LaToya Cantrell: "Without a doubt, we will have Mardi Gras in 2022.” And check out our Mardi Gras site for all the news and pictures.
Betty White second line: Finally, we do love us a parade. A second-line is planned to honor Betty White on what would have been her 100th birthday. The event will also raise money for an animal resuce organization. It's scheduled for Jan. 17.
