| | We’ll start with what many folks want to know: the weather! | | IS IT GOING TO BE A COLD WINTER? |  | In the U.S., this winter will be remembered for big chills, with below-normal temperatures from the Heartland westward to the Pacific Coast starting just after New Year’s. Frigid conditions will linger well into spring for some regions, particularly in the Midwest and east to the Ohio Valley and Appalachians.
In Canada, temperatures will be not quite so cold as usual throughout most of the country, except in southern British Columbia.

| | HOW MUCH WILL IT SNOW THIS WINTER? |  | In the U.S., The 2020 Old Farmer’s Almanac is calling for frequent snow events—from flurries to no fewer than seven big snowstorms from coast to coast, including two in April for the Intermountain region west of the Rockies.
In Canada, conditions will be more wet than white in southern and central Quebec and southern portions of Alberta and British Columbia, and snowy everywhere else. Eight major snowstorms—count ’em!

| | A CALENDAR OF THE HEAVENS |  | As longtime readers know, our traditionally 80 percent–accurate weather predictions are a small part of The Old Farmer’s Almanac. Sky watchers count on our 100 percent–accurate astronomical predictions, with guidance on when and where to look up for celestial events.
