Hello,
Here at Mozilla, we know that a future where people are data beneficiaries, instead of data sources, is possible. That's why, as part of our collaboration with the recently launched Data Futures Lab, we've been digging deep into the field of alternative data governance models.
We began our digging by looking at what kind of alternative models already exist, who's building them, and what could go wrong despite the best intentions. But we didn't stop there.
Because truly ambitious change takes a village, we spent the last few months looking at the people and organizations who make up the ecosystem that enables a better data future. We learned a lot along the way!
I'm excited to share our latest research with you, and I invite you to dive into the report.
Our analysis answers some key questions: - Who is building the field and how? Spoiler alert: tech, research, community building, and funding are all essential components.
- Who needs alternative data governance and why? Some spaces are more ripe for innovation than others.
- What can be done to help the field move forward? We get specific on strategy and tactics.
You can learn a bit more about the ideas that boosted the research here.
We hope you'll dig in with us. Thank you for reading,
Kasia Odrozek Director, Mozilla Insights Mozilla Foundation
