Wired | After a 14-month search, Amazon announced that it will open a pair of regional offices in two major metropolitan areas where it already has a presence: the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens, a borough of New York, and Arlington, Virginia, just outside Washington DC. Amazon’s search for a second headquarters garnered criticism from research groups, some lawmakers, and concerned citizens who worried that enormous sums of taxpayer money would be handed to one of the wealthiest corporations in the country without much public oversight.
The Verge | Google’s official G Suite Twitter account is the latest victim of an ongoing bitcoin scam that has been plaguing the social media platform for the last few weeks, joining companies like Target (which saw a similar hack yesterday). G Suite might be the highest-profile target of the scam yet, which saw fake, promoted tweets that appeared to originate from the G Suite account pop up in users’ timelines yesterday, directing them toward a scammy bitcoin address as part of a “giveaway.”
Infosecurity Magazine | Nordstrom is the latest victim in a long line of data breaches suffered across the retail sector, according to The Seattle Times. The Seattle-based retailer suffered a data breach in which a wide range of personal information was exposed. In addition to disclosing employee names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and checking account and routing numbers, salaries and more were also revealed. The culprit? A contract worker who inadvertently exposed data.
