Dear Friend,

Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!

This week, President Trump delivered his Joint Address to Congress, laying out a powerful vision for America’s future with the confidence and determination that has defined his leadership. His message was clear: America is back, and we are just getting started.

As I serve the people of South Carolina, I am energized by the President’s agenda and share his passion for empowering hard working Americans. We have made tremendous progress, but there is much more to accomplish. I look forward to working alongside the President and my colleagues in Congress to make our nation stronger, safer, and more prosperous.

Meeting with President Trump’s National Institutes of Health Director Nominee

I enjoyed sitting down with Dr. Jay Bhattacharya to discuss life expectancy, sickle cell disease gene therapies like using CRISPR, the fight to cure cancer, and the widespread effects of learning loss from COVID. A strong NIH is essential for South Carolina’s public universities and colleges like MUSC, USC, and Clemson to continue their research efforts that pave the way for innovation. With Dr. Bhattacharya leading the NIH, I am confident that our future will only get stronger.

Seeking to Boost American Energy Production

This week, I joined forces with Congressman August Pfluger (R-Texas) and introduced the Unlocking Domestic LNG Potential Act, which would place the permitting process in the jurisdiction of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and eliminate the U.S. Department of Energy’s authority on LNG exports. President Biden’s war on domestic energy production not only hurt Americans’ wallets, but also halted American energy independence. My bill is the right tool to strengthen the economy and increase the energy security of the U.S. and our allies.

My Effort to Combat Debanking

As the Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, addressing debanking is a top priority. This discriminatory and un-American practice should concern everyone, which is why I’ve led my colleagues in working to find tangible solutions. My Financial Integrity and Regulation Management Act will eliminate all references to reputational risk as a measure to determine the safety and soundness of regulated financial institutions. This legislation is the first step in ending debanking once and for all.

Sharing the #SCSweetTea

Chef Michael Sibert from Greer, SC, took home the win on Chopped in the March 4th episode! The talented chef, who owns White Wine & Butter and Anonymous Burgers, impressed the judges with creative dishes like crab rangoon cake and steak with risotto. He was deeply touched by a judge’s comment that his food was "like a hug from grandma," a tribute to the time he spent watching Chopped with his grandmother. This win is not only a career highlight for Sibert but also a proud moment for his family and community. Congrats, Chef! Read the full story here

Wall Street Journal: New GOP Bill Aims to End ‘Debanking’ of Crypto Companies and Conservatives

By Dylan Tokar

March 6, 2025

The leader of the Senate Banking Committee wants regulators to stop worrying about customers causing reputational damage to banks.

Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina says that concern is fueling “debanking,” where banks allegedly avoid certain businesses. That issue has gained attention thanks to the advocacy of crypto companies and recent remarks by President Trump, who called out Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase for closing conservatives’ bank accounts.

Scott introduced a bill on Thursday that would end regulatory oversight of so-called reputational risks, calling the bill a first step toward ending discrimination against clients. Eleven other Republican senators are co-sponsoring the bill.
