Professor Scott Galloway Discusses the 'Low Point' America Is Living Through

Good morning,

Thanks for taking the time to check this out, but first "a word of caution to this tale" ... the top of this newsletter might sound even more self promotional than usual.

I had the chance to speak to NYU Stern Professor (+ author + entrepreneur) Scott Galloway yesterday and we covered a lot of ground, ranging from his thoughts on the economy to surviving the pandemic:

On Big Tech's testimony to a House Judiciary Antitrust Subcommittee:

It’ll be more spectacle than historic.

On big name brands boycotting Facebook:

It’s the Terminator 2 [Judgment Day] movie where The Terminator would remove its arm and re-form. That’s what the Facebook advertising base is: If somebody stops advertising, a competitor will fill that hole.

On the pandemic making us (seemingly) less empathetic:

Every ugly thing that was predicted about capitalism by [Karl] Marx and other philosophers, we seem to be proving them right.

You can read the full Q&A here. If you want to hear more from Galloway, maybe you'll consider checking out our (virtual) NexTech event next week? It starts Monday and runs through Thursday.

We'll feature folks, including Galloway himself, and leaders in our industry to talk about a lot of things, including monetizing digital content. I'll be moderating a session on Monday, talking with publishers about how they're going about it. Should be a decent time. If nothing else, you can poke fun at my quarantine hair in the comments section.

In other news:

Need a break? Daydream about live sports for a few minutes.

I'll see you here tomorrow, but if you see anything that captures your attention in the meantime, please send it my way: sara.jerde@adweek.com.
