The Space Force Wants You, Gamers

Most Americans know very little about the U.S. Space Force, the sixth and newest branch of the country’s military. While its theoretical history dates back to the end of the Second World War, since it was officially launched in 2019, the organization has aggressively amped up its operations with the following officially stated mission duties: provide freedom of operation, protect our interests and deter aggression in space.

As our correspondent John Scott Lewinski reports, to accomplish those increasingly urgent goals, the Space Force isn’t necessarily looking to recruit elite physical specimens, like Marines or Navy SEALs. Instead, due to the nature of their work, they prioritize other criteria for their service members, who are called Guardians.

“Obviously, we can’t look up and see satellites,” says Garfield Reeves-Stevens, who works with the Space Force Association. “Space Force needs Guardians who think conceptually to operate in an active, strategic space. Gamers are perfect for that.”

Yesterday, we asked you an age-old question: soft shell or hard shell tacos. Only about 35% of you said hard shell — the rest of you are soft shell all the way.

Closet Constructor: Mastering Madras, Summer’s Unsung Hero

While often reverently cited as the gold standard for summer garments, it’s something of an open secret among those who spend the majority of the time touching, styling or otherwise thinking about clothing that linen is not always all it’s cracked up to be.

There are, however, some other fabric options you should know about. Madras — named after the southern Indian city, now Chennai, where the fabric originated — is a warm-weather solution we're particularly fond of.

The Best Lightweight Moisturizers for Your Summer Grooming Routine

It’s warm outside. Your face already has a dewy layer (summer glow, if you will), and you’ve applied SPF. Adding a moisturizer now just seems extra. It is reasonable to assume it might clog pores, lead to breakouts and overall feel too heavy. But this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Warm weather isn’t an excuse to skip the benefits of using a face moisturizer in your grooming routine. It provides hydration, protection, an even tone and eases lines and wrinkles. What we do recommend, however, is switching up the type of moisturizer you use during the summer months. The good news is plenty of oil-free, mattifying, lightweight moisturizers are available, many of which also contain SPF. These are the best lightweight moisturizers to consider adding to your summer grooming rotation.
