Good afternoon! It's Thursday, March 17, and today's headlines include an American pastor providing trauma kits to Ukrainians, details from an audit of New York's Department of Health's COVID-19 death figures, and Disney's addition of mature content to its Disney Plus streaming platform.

American pastor Bill Devlin, a veteran of the Vietnam War and Purple Heart recipient who serves as the outreach pastor for Infinity Bible Church in Bronx, New York, has traveled to Ukraine with a small team of military veterans and an ABC News reporter to work with the Ukrainian army to provide combat field trauma supplies to help those wounded in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Devlin told The Christian Post he left the U.S. for
Warsaw, Poland, on Saturday before taking a 12-hour bus ride to the Ukrainian border. "We went from Warsaw to the Polish-Ukrainian border and we were in a commercial bus with 45 other people. These were Ukrainians going back into Ukraine and then we were held up at the Poland-Ukraine border for two hours and then when we finally got into Ukraine, it was another hour and a half to Lviv," he explained.

Devlin is working with the Ukrainian army and Ukrainian Civil Defense Forces to provide supplies such as tourniquets to stop bleeding and Quikclot, which consists of "a medicine or a gauze that allows quick clotting on a traumatic wound from a gunshot or from shrapnel," he added. These materials " can save their lives." Devlin also indicated that he plans to "train local people in self-defense," because civilians "need
to know how to best defend their cities and towns and villages." In Case You Missed It ...

At the age of 91, John Perkins is dying of cancer—and he has a message for America: "Repentance is the only way back to God." In his final book, Count it All Joy: The Ridiculous Paradox of Suffering, published six months ago, the civil rights activist and racial reconciliation crusader presents a compelling narrative on the essential roles suffering and the centrality of the Gospel play in delivering the U.S. from issues such as racism, bigotry, and
strife. In this interview with The Christian Post, Perkins discusses America, the Church, and where society has gone wrong. "The theology of racial reconciliation is what throws us off. We are a racialized society. We turned sin into being racial. Sin is disobedience to the Word of God and the commandment of God," he contends.

"Recent events in Canada reveal an alarming trend of crackdowns on religious liberty. While not to the same degree of persecution often seen in North Korea or China, it’s nonetheless alarming that brazen violations are happening so close to home," writes First Liberty Institute's Jorge Gomez. In this op-ed, Gomez details Canada's increasingly alarming government control, including it "imposing dictatorial speech restrictions," which The Washington Times notes "prohibit citizens
from spreading Biblical views on marriage and sexuality," explaining, "Canadian parents, faith leaders, and citizens who hold traditional views of marriage and sexuality will now face up to 5 years of jail time for providing spiritual guidance to those seeking counseling." Read more.

Hedieh Mirahmadi, founder of Resurrect Ministry, discusses the "pain of disobedience" and the lessons believers can learn by looking at the life and struggles of Peter. "The real battle is within us, not with other people. Therefore, we must be on our guard. In these troubled times, we are called to even greater submission. In our obedience, in surrendering to His plan, we reflect that Christ lives in us and will draw others towards Him," Mirahmadi explains. Read more.

Retired Marine Colonel Mitchell Swan, a Republican congressional candidate, has released a campaign ad cautioning that the military has misplaced priorities. In the ad, titled "Insane," Swan states, "Where’s our military focused? Gender dysphoria and woke training. This is insane." He goes on to warn, "[Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s reviewing nuclear options while we assess transgender therapy options. As a retired colonel who led marines overseas, I know this woke indoctrination will destroy our military." Watch the ad here.

An audit released by the New York Office of the State Comptroller has revealed that former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's Department of Health understated COVID-19 deaths at nursing homes and couldn't account for more than 4,000 deaths. "Whether due to the poor-quality data that it was collecting initially or, later, a deliberate decision, for certain periods during the pandemic, the Department understated the number of deaths at nursing homes by as much as 50%," the report states. New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli said in a statement that people were "misled by those at the highest level of state government through distortion and suppression of the facts when New Yorkers deserved the truth."

"Family" branded streaming service Disney Plus now features six Marvel TV series rated TV-MA, a designation indicating they include content for mature audiences. New additions to the platform include shows such as "Daredevil," "The Defenders," and "Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Disney updated its parental controls in the U.S., and every user is prompted to update their settings to select the content rating restrictions for each profile. Some family entertainment advocates are condemning Disney Plus's move into such content, with Parents Television and Media Council's Melissa Henson saying, "Out of the gate, Disney Plus branded itself as, ‘Everything on here, you can be comfortable sitting down and watching these shows and films with your kids' ... This is a dramatic departure. It’s puzzling why these edgy shows aren’t heading to Hulu instead, which is known for adult-targeted content." Read more.
