Hello Voornaam,

Lots of South Africans have clearly used the extra time they've spent at home over the past year making improvements. While that's apparent in recent results from hardware retailers including Cashbuild, it was backed up by Italtile's latest numbers. The tile and sanitaryware group claims to manufacture one out of every two tiles, baths and toilets sold in the country. And it's done very well.

So too has lighting and electrical products distributor ARB Holdings, which imports Eurolux light fittings and lamps, amongst other things. Apart from an improved trading environment, ARB credits strong internal controls for its first-half performance.

ArcelorMittal SA has also been rejigging its business after a very difficult 2019 financial year. Its latest results show a big improvement, although it still reported a full-year loss. Still, it's hoping that international steel prices remain elevated as it turns its business around.

More on those stories to follow, along with updates from Kaap Agri and packaging group Transpaco.

It's the end of the week, so all the latest mergers and acquisitions news from DealMakers too.

Have a good weekend.

Last Friday, Kuaishou Technology, the startup with a TikTok-style video app that is part-owned by Tencent, listed in Hong Kong and what a ride it has been. "Kuaishou bounce" analyses the financial situation and impact on Tencent, which also indirectly washes over into Prosus. Such is the enthusiasm, could ByteDance list Douyin? And a cool, succinct analysis of what has driven GameStop mania can be found in "Stop the Game - I want to get off".
