10 words that have their own meaning in Alabama.

Alabama dictionary

There are some words and phrases that are common in Alabama, but aren’t so common anywhere else.

Some of them have different meanings once you leave Alabama, like how most people (incorrectly) think L.A. only refers to that one city in California, while others, like Wickles or Conecuh, may not be recognized as words at all.

Plus, there are a few phrases, like "Go to church or the devil will get you," that might be recognized by folks from other states (especially if they've driven through Chilton County on Interstate 65) but are rooted right here in our state.

Here's a look at 10 words and phrases that belong in an Alabama dictionary.
