NATIONAL: To celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, 1800 Tequila released its inaugural NFT corresponding to a bottle of its 1800 Colección Tequila—one of the rarest tequilas in the world—and auctioned it exclusively on BlockBar.com. It was created by late surrealist British artist Leonora Carrington prior to her passing. She crafted a decanter, dubbed “El Rey del Tequila” (“The King of Tequila”), and the starting bid was $25,000. The buyer was invited to Jalisco, Mexico for a private tequila tasting at La Rojeña distillery, Latin America’s oldest distillery and the birthplace of tequila.
CHICAGO: Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group is bringing back The Old Joliet Haunted Prison for Halloween 2022. Located inside a real abandoned prison, this year, the haunted event will feature two new frightening experiences for guests: The Abominations and Tormented. Attendees are also invited to participate in escape room games, enjoy local eats from on-site food trucks, plus treat themselves to themed drinks and concessions at The Commissary. The Old Joliet Haunted Prison will open to the public on Sept. 24 and will remain open on select nights through Nov. 5.
Replay Lincoln Park’s newest all-immersive pop-up experience, Stranger Bar, is now open to the public. Stranger Bar features themed drinks that pay homage to the hit show Stranger Things, plus photo opportunities, live '80s music, arcade games from the era, a live concert with the Chicago Philharmonic of the Stranger Things soundtrack, and more. Events scheduled during the pop-up include a Dungeons & Dragons tournament, karaoke nights, Eddie Munson’s graduation ceremony, and Hawkins’ Snowball. Guests aged over 21 do not need to make a reservation to attend, and are encouraged to dress up as their favorite characters from the show. Stranger Bar will run through Oct. 31.
NEW ORLEANS: The 71st Miss Universe Competition will air live from New Orleans, La. on Jan. 14, 2023 from the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. During the pageant, 90 women from around the world will participate in the prestigious competition, which includes in-depth interviews and outfit categories such as evening gown and swimwear. The event will end with the current Miss Universe, India’s Harnaaz Sandhu, crowning her successor.
NEW YORK: Sports broadcaster and talk show host Ann Liguori will host the 24th annual Ann Liguori Foundation (ALF) Charity Golf Classic on Sept. 22 at the Maidstone Club in East Hampton, N.Y. The annual charity outing benefits not-for-profit organizations in the field of cancer research and care. Dan Pontecorvo, the global director of real estate and engineering at Jane Street Capital, is the 2022 ALF business honoree. Additionally, guitarist Alex Lifeson of rock band Rush will accept the 2022 ALF Music Honoree Award.
