You are invited to attend a special briefing from
the Independent Media Institute:
Democracy on the Brink—Making Media to Fix It
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2020
4:00 p.m. EST
With presentations from IMI correspondents:
Steven Rosenfeld, Voting Booth
Reynard Loki, Earth | Food | Life
April M. Short, Local Peace Economy
Dear Reader,

You’ve been a loyal supporter of IMI’s journalists and its mission, and I want to invite you to attend a briefing via Zoom on important work we’ve been up to in this election year, how we have found ways to make an impact in a chaotic media and political environment.

Please join me and three of our talented writing fellows, Steven Rosenfeld, Reynard Loki and April M. Short, as we share our plans for the months ahead

Rosenfeld leads our Voting Booth project, which continues to be the cutting-edge media project for identifying election problems before they happen, or as they are happening, and getting decision-makers to address them to produce better outcomes. His reporting is read by the entire election community, and is closely read by journalists covering the election nationally.

Reynard Loki is simply one of the finest environmental journalists on our imperiled planet, and his Earth | Food | Life project has laid out the media ingredients needed to shift people’s consciousness on how we relate to the world around us.

April M. Short, our lead correspondent of Local Peace Economy has written important stories on the ways people have found solutions to help each other during the COVID-19 pandemic in the face of total abdication from all levels of government.

I'll be there to explain how IMI’s model has adapted to a totally fragmented digital media environment and figured out a way to deliver substantive journalism in the public interest to short-attention-span audiences, here in the U.S. and globally.

Our Zoom briefing is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Friday, October 16, and I hope you can join us.
If you’re not able to join us for the call, please consider donating in this moment when it feels like the future of the country is on the line. As someone who understands the role of independent media in facing these challenges, you are needed more than ever. Most people simply don’t understand how important media is for getting change on the big issues of our time.
Thanks so much—and I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Jan Ritch-Frel
