Works of Arctic explorer from Minnesota offers climate change insights

Canadian researchers have been traveling to Minnesota to view plant specimens gathered in the Arctic decades ago by a boot-clomping, chain-smoking librarian who grew up near Duluth. The work of Margaret Oldenburg is finding new relevance as a way to better understand the effects of climate change.

New map restores Native names to northern Minnesota

The Bois Forte Band of Chippewa and the Ely Folk School have teamed up on a new map that restores more than 100 Ojibwe names to lakes, rivers and other significant places in northern Minnesota.

Argentina-Mexico World Cup match brings people together in Minnetonka restaurant
More than 100 people filled the space at DelSur Empanadas Argentinas to watch the World Cup victory for Argentina 2-0 against Mexico. Fan support at DelSur favored the victors, but for many, the gathering at the Minnetonka restaurant was about more than a soccer game. Speaking of the World Cup, Morocco pulls off an upset by beating Belgium 2-0, and Croatia downs Canada 4-1.

St. Cloud schools to offer Minnesota's first Somali language immersion program. 
The program’s expansion reflects the growing diversity of the St. Cloud school district, where about 40 percent of this year’s kindergartners speak a language other than English at home.

Minnesota rallies late to beat Wisconsin 23-16 to keep Paul Bunyan's Axe. Athan Kaliakmanis connected with Le’Meke Brockington on a tiebreaking 45-yard touchdown with 3:40 remaining and Minnesota barely hung on in the final minute to beat Wisconsin 23-16 on Saturday.

Musician Jon Batiste is on tap to perform at President Joe Biden's first White House state dinner on Thursday, highlighting long-standing ties between the United States and France and honoring President Emmanuel Macron.
