Dear Customer, After a challenging year for everyone, the countdown to Christmas has begun and it’s been a week of good news and reasons for optimism as we look ahead to the New Year. The approval of a new vaccine for use in the UK signals what we hope will be the start of the end for this terrible pandemic that has affected so many of us, our friends and our families. At Aldi, we have been able to continue to support our colleagues, customers and suppliers during the various lockdowns, whilst other businesses have been forced to close. This is one of the reasons why this week, we announced our decision to pay back more than £100m in business rates relief that we have received as part of the Government’s support for all retailers. We think it’s the right thing to do and that the money can be used to redirect support where it’s needed most. I do hope that you are able to celebrate Christmas with your loved ones this year and enjoy the superb quality of the festive food, drink and seasonal products available at Aldi, don’t just take our word for it – Aldi was recently awarded Christmas Retailer of the Year by the Quality Food Awards. Clearly, Christmas can be an expensive time of year, but we continue to do everything we can to keep our prices low and make Christmas affordable for everyone. We are delighted that today, two independent organisations have confirmed that Aldi remains the lowest‑priced supermarket in the UK. Analysis by consumer group Which?* has revealed that a typical basket of groceries at Aldi is between 11% and 22% cheaper than the same shop at the Big Four supermarkets. The latest independent price survey by The Grocer+ also shows that on their basket of 33 items you could save between £7.98 and £12.31. I hope this Christmas our award-winning^ quality and great prices provide everything you need to enjoy the big day with your loved ones. When you visit us, I want to reassure you that all our stores are safe, and our colleagues are on hand to help you with any assistance you may need. Visit aldi.co.uk/covid19 for more information. Everything you need to know about our Christmas range, opening hours and everyone’s favourite carrot is online too. Finally, on behalf of my 36,000 colleagues, thank you for shopping with Aldi this year. We truly appreciate your loyalty and support. With all our best wishes to you, your family and loved ones this Christmas. Giles Hurley CEO – Aldi UK and IRE | ||||||||||
