The White House recently announced its $8 billion plan to tackle food insecurity and improve nutrition and wellness nationwide. Industry leaders like Albertsons, Instacart, Target, and Meijer have all joined in to voice their support. -- We asked: Do you think the grocery industry, both retailers and suppliers, should follow suit and take the lead in the White House's national strategy on Hunger, Nutrition and Health? You answered: -- Amanda Ecoff, Lotus Sustainables YES! I do think the grocery industry should follow suit. And actually think it's a brilliant idea! As we saw with the roll-out of the covid vaccine, the best way to get to all neighborhoods is through local grocery stores. I cannot think of a better way to tackle food insecurity than through those supplying communities with access to food! Many food stores are already doing this by giving to their local food banks and having a deeply discounted section of soon-to-be-expired foods. ** Have another thought?
