AND THE STORY GOES LIKE THIS . . .
Freedom is the key word here.
Born in Israel, raised in Venezuela, Nir Katularu came to the United Sates of America at age 32. Nir's immense intelligence and strength of character carried him through treacherous political and social adversity that most only discuss remotely around the dinner table. He endured intense familial discordance, fueling the personal doubt that accompanied his grit to get a law degree, start a law firm, and run several businesses in Venezuela all before coming to Arizona in 2003.
Breathing in the freedom this country has to offer, his huge heart was pulled towards artistic expression. Nir took a traditional rule-based painting class and soon realized his english was too thin to explain why he didn't want to paint the way you were "supposed" to paint. His hands found ceramics while building new businesses to make a living, and yet something inside was insisting for greater, deeper personal expression.
Enter Abstract Expression.
In fall of 2016 Nir signed up for my workshop Painting into Abstraction at the Scottsdale Artists School. He dove into paint heart first, followed by a stream of questions eliciting answers to satiate his appetite for bringing thoughts and feelings to the canvas. Shortly after the workshop ended I received a "Thank You" note from Nir's wife expressing her sincere gratitude for the transformation she saw in her husband:
It is rare that someone takes the time to "connect" in a genuine and caring way. You touched my husbands heart and gave him the confidence to continue forward and improve his skills.
He has not stopped painting since! Thank you so much for sharing your light!
I am privileged to continue working with Nir through the Artist Mastery 3-month program followed by the Artist Mastery 1-year program. The doors are wide open now for his depth to come forward in paint, and true to form, he has started a new business resulting from his studies.
The Nir Art Studio and Gallery in Fountain Hill AZ opened mid-summer 2019.
The Nir Art Studio and Gallery Opening reception is Friday November 8 from 5:00 to 8:00pm
I am honored to be the guest artist exhibiting recent work along with Nir's comprehensive body of work produced in the last year.
Nir does everything with a whole heart, a brilliant mind, and dexterous hands.
We are lucky that he chose to build a life in the United States of America.
