| | | | Hey — cooking just got creepy... Mozilla researchers have revealed that some of the biggest Android recipe apps secretly scoop up and share huge amounts of users' personal data. It's scary stuff. These apps, from big names like the BBC and the Food Network, are packed with trackers to grab info like your location, behavior and even your battery level, then share it with advertisers. Right now, letting companies track you like this is Android's default setting, and that's not OK. Here's the thing — this is why Mozilla exists, and why I'm asking you to donate today. Together, our global community is tracking tech giants' actions and pushing them to be open and accountable, so we can build a safer internet for everyone. Can you chip in now to help fund the fight? It takes 2 minutes: I'm so proud of everything you and our whole Mozilla team are making possible. Here are three more ways we've fought to make the web a better place this year: YouTube: we've worked with 37,380 users to show how its algorithms push people to watch harmful content that violates its own policies. Venmo: we've pressured the company's CEO to protect users from risks like stalking and ransom demands by making payments private. Slack: we've partnered with Caroline Sinders, Coworker.org and UltraViolet to demand that the chat platform adds a block function to stop abuse. That's just a snapshot of what we've been up to. With the future of our internet hanging in the balance, we've got ambitious plans in the pipeline for the next few months too.
2022 will be another big year. With the advance of AI, the rise of Big Tech and ongoing threats to our data and privacy, we'll need to battle hard for the future of the web. Can you chip in to supercharge Mozilla's campaigns? Donate now: I can't wait to see what we can achieve together next year. Thanks for being part of it. Mark Surman Executive Director, Mozilla Foundation P.S. — We're closer than ever to our fundraising target of $1.5 million, and we only have a couple of days left to reach it. If you've not chipped in yet, now's the time. Donate now, it takes 2 minutes. | |
