Angel Reese is back

We interrupt your daily dose of Jayden Daniels Heisman talk to bring you this bulletin:

Angel Reese is back.

LSU coach Kim Mulkey confirmed Wednesday that the All-American forward is back in the team's good graces and will play in Thursday night's big game at the PMAC between the No. 7-ranked Tigers and No. 9 Virginia Tech (8 p.m., ESPN)

Just why Reese was absent the last 4-1/2 games, Mulkey still was unwilling to say. What can be said is that this is a new start for the Tigers (7-1). The question is, can they recapture last season's magic and win a second straight NCAA championship?

It wasn't all "welcome home" greetings on the LSU women's hoops front Wednesday.

Mulkey said guard Kateri Poole continues to be away from the team, but also said the senior role player could still return. Poole, you may recall, played a big role in getting Reese to transfer to LSU from Maryland in the first place.

Not returning this season is promising forward Sa'Myah Smith. She went down with a knee injury over the weekend in the Caymans against Niagara and will need season-ending surgery.

It was, to say the least, an interesting news conference with the always spirited Mulkey on Wednesday. Without naming names, she accused some in the media of attacking her personally over what she was willing to say (or not say) during Reese's absence.

By the way, Reese was seen practicing with the team Wednesday afternoon in the PMAC.

We'll be on the scene Thursday night as the Tigers take on the Hokies, trying to beat them as they did in the Final Four back in April. And of course we're THE place for all your LSU football coverage, Heisman coverage, baseball, men's basketball and all the rest.

Thanks as always for reading and subscribing.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming ...

"So (insert name of talking head here), can Jayden Daniels win the Heisman?"
