Biography
Anneliese Drbal was born in Carinthia, Austria where she received her Master's degree in Philosophy and Psychology. She moved to Vienna and started her career in Adult Education. There she met her future husband, and after coming to the States on their honeymoon they settled down in California. Raising their two sons became her main focus.
Anneliese always loved creating and with her husband's encouragement began her journey in art, formally studying drawing and painting with nationally recognized artists such as Bill Morales, Jian Wu, Kathleen Dunphy and Ray Mendieta.
With her European background and her frequent trips to Austria, she moves between two worlds: the European World or Old World with its refined taste, exclusivity and complexity, and the American World or New World of vitality, optimism and ingenuity. She comes to terms with both worlds because of the beauty and spirituality she sees in all places and people.
In her travels she is able to capture the many lovely landscapes that the world has to offer, and she thrives on the excitement of translating nature into art. Her works are influenced by French Impressionists Renoir and Sisley, and American Impressionist Sargent, with her feminine undertones making them unique. Vivid colors and heartfelt emotion guide her works in oil and watercolor. Her pastels reflect a passionate appreciation of the human figure. The artist is on an endless quest to simplify her brushstrokes and transport the viewer to a place of light.
