Anne Frank House celebrates 60th anniversary

On 3 May 2020 it was sixty years to the day since the Anne Frank House opened its doors to the public, on 3 May 1960. Otto Frank, the only one of the eight people who had been living in hiding in the Secret Annex to survive the Holocaust, laid the foundation for the preservation and opening of the building at Prinsengracht 263: as a warning from the past, with an eye to the future.

Support

The world is going through an unprecedented crisis, which has enormous consequences for all of us, and therefore also for the Anne Frank House.  As part of the global effort to stop the spread of the Corona virus, we had to close our museum. We have no indication when we will be able to reopen the museum. In the sixty years since Otto Frank opened the Anne Frank House to the public, we have never had to close the museum for more than a few hours.

As an independent museum that is not subsidised by the state or the city, we rely to a large extent on the revenues from museum visits for our income. If we are to continue to spread the memory of Anne Frank and her father’s mission, we can use all the support we can get. Many people have told us that they feel that the Anne Frank House and our educational work are important, and that they want to support our mission. This means a great deal to us! If you decide to make a donation to the Anne Frank House, we will be very grateful.
