Annual Fund
Dear Florida League Family,
Happy Holidays to you and your family! At the Florida League, we celebrated our 14th season of making a positive impact in the lives of baseball players and for countless Central Florida families who came out and experienced our community-friendly games this year. Now is the time for us to shift our focus to next season.
Our 2018 planning starts with this Annual Fund campaign, and there is no better day to begin this campaign than Giving Tuesday. The Annual Fund is one of many ways the Florida League raises money. Other funding comes from grants, sponsorships, fundraising events, game revenue and donations.
The Florida League is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization. It costs approximately $800,000 to run this collegiate league (six teams) and all of its development programs each year. Going into our 15th season, we have remained steadfast in our mission to provide top-level training for college baseball players as well as offering a safe and family-friendly community environment at our games. Through our FUNraiser program, we continue to help many other non-profit and civic organizations in the Central Florida community increase funding and awareness through our games.
This past year we had our 399th player drafted by Major League Baseball. In 2017, three Florida League alumni had exciting professional debuts. Austin Hays (former DeLand Sun and 2014 Florida League MVP) was the first player from his draft class (Orioles, 2015) called up to the big leagues. Eric Skoglund (College Park Freedom, 2013) made his professional debut for the Royals and got a win in his first start vs. the Tigers. Aaron Slegers (Orlando Freedom, 2012) also made his debut while being named the Twins Minor League Pitcher of the Year. These are the same players who, during their time honing their skills with the Florida League, contributed countless volunteer hours off the field and acted as role models for the young baseball fans in our community.
Opportunities for players like this would not be possible without the generous support of a community that cares to have quality programs such as ours. It is our sincere hope that you will consider making a contribution so we can continue impacting the lives of baseball players as well as families in the Central Florida community. Your contribution helps us keep our player fees affordable or allows us to provide scholarships for those who can̢۪t afford it. Donations also help us pay for equipment that is needed, umpire fees, field rentals, office rent, utilities, stipends for our internship program and all other expenses that are associated with running a baseball league.
No matter the amount, any contribution you make will help us further the Florida League̢۪s cause. Additionally, as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, your contribution to us is tax-deductible. We will gladly provide a donation receipt for any offering received.
We wish everyone a very happy holiday season and look forward to sharing the memories of our 15th season with your in 2018!
