Annual Report and Action Impact

It's been a busy month at all of our Skate Schools worldwide as you will see from this newsletter. There have been new partnerships formed, new students attending programs, new staff members, and new gear in our webshop.

But alongside the new, we have been looking back at the old. 2016 was the busiest year yet for Skateistan, reaching the highest number of children the organization has ever recorded, and hitting 50% female students. You can now read or download the 2016 Annual Report from our website or carry on scrolling down this newsletter to read the latest updates.

Citizen Profile: Karabou* and Thato*, Skate and Create students (Johannesburg)

This time we have profiled two of our Skate and Create students in Johannesburg, who come by Skateistan after school each day in the afternoon. Our programs give children and youth the opportunity to use their afternoons productively, whether that’s in the skatepark or the classroom. Skate and Create combines an hour of skating with an hour in the classroom to provide two hours of learning in many different ways. Read about why Karabou* and Thato*, both Skate and Create students, come to Skateistan.

It's been a busy few months, full of creativity, which Educator Noorzai tells us about in this summer update from the Mazar Skate School.

Hi from Skateistan in Phnom Penh

A quick selfie with Sophea and the Youth Leaders in Phnom Penh, Cambodia! These Youth Leaders have been doing great work helping out at programs, assisting in classes, and acting as role models to the younger students. As well as putting in lots of practice in the skatepark (they are getting really good!).

Sophea shared her story and experiences as a Youth Leader with us earlier this year

Dropping In: Skateistan part of the ‘Action Impact Network’

At Skateistan we believe in the power of sports for the well-being of individuals and ultimately the world. With this in mind, we have joined forces with a consortium of international NGOs to form the ‘Action Impact Network’. A group of NGO’s who aim to collectively measure the impact of programs delivering mental and wellbeing solutions to children and youth, through participation in sport and well-being activities worldwide.
