A fresh STEM survey for CNN Prima News shows the public has the most confidence in opposition politicians, particularly ANO party leaders. Andrej Babiš, Karel Havlíček, and Alena Schillerová rank highest in trust, followed by Freedom and Direct Democracy chair Tomio Okamura.

When asked about potential prime ministers, Babiš emerges as the favorite with 27% support, far ahead of Havlíček at 13%. Among government coalition leaders, Fiala leads with 9%, closely followed by Rakušan at 6%.
Nearly half of Czechs expect their finances to stay the same or improve this year, up from about 40% a year ago, according to a December survey by lender Provident Financial. Only 20% are worried about 2025, down from 25% last year. The biggest financial challenges are expected to be utility bills and holiday spending, the survey suggests.
Compared to last year, 10% more Czechs feel optimistic about their finances, and 18% more compared to 2023. Financial worries have steadily declined, with only 21% of people concerned this year, down from 25% last year and 32% in 2023.
Almost half of respondents expect no financial changes this year. About 23% believe they’ll get a raise, while 13% think their income will drop. However, job insecurity has risen slightly, with 7% fearing job loss, compared to 5% a year ago.
Afghan women, wives of former interpreters for the Czech Army, are participating in a two-day sewing workshop aimed at helping them integrate into Czech society while making clothes for veterans. The EasyShorts initiative, organized by the Red Poppies Association, teaches practical skills and provides sewing machines and fabric for continued work at home.
These women arrived in Czechia in June 2021, when the government evacuated Afghan interpreters and their families to protect them from Taliban threats, after years of collaboration during NATO missions.
Since the Taliban regained control in 2021, Afghan women have faced severe restrictions, including bans on education, employment, and public freedoms. The Red Poppies project gives them an opportunity to rebuild their lives in safety and contribute to their new community.
The West Bohemian Gallery in Pilsen has received a collection of 66 works by world-renowned Czech writer, poet, and artist Jiří Kolář (1914-2002). The collages, created using various techniques, span the author’s career from the 1950s to the 1990s.
The collection was acquired directly from Kolář in the late 1990s by Zdeněk Valeš, the former director of the regional energy company Západočeská energetika, who visited Kolář in his Paris apartment. The works have now been donated to the gallery by ČEZ.
Three-time Olympic champion Ester Ledecká claimed third place in the downhill race at St. Anton, marking her eleventh career podium finish in the Ski World Cup. She finished just 18 hundredths of a second behind Italian winner Federica Brignone. In a surprising turn, Swiss skier Malorie Blanc, starting with the high number 46, claimed second place on a course shortened due to fresh snow.
This was the 29-year-old Ledecká’s first podium since her super-G victory in Saalbach, Austria, last March. It is also her seventh podium in a downhill event, with her most recent previous finish being second in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, in 2022. Fellow Czech skier Tereza Nová finished in 45th place.
