PROPERTY INSURER: Yet another major insurer is pulling out of Louisiana. United Property & Casualty Insurance Co., based in St. Petersburg, Florida, will cease renewing its roughly 36,000 Louisiana home insurance policies in 2023. It is the largest company, in terms of the value of premiums written, to pull up stakes amid the state’s widening insurance crisis. POLICE CHIEF: With New Orleans police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson set to quit 10 days before the City Council gains authority to confirm or deny his successor, a chorus rose Wednesday for Mayor LaToya Cantrell to look far and wide for a new chief. Most City Council members were among those chafing at word that Cantrell has already chosen a successor, as was The Nola Coalition, a broad group of business and civic activists formed this year amid a surge in carjackings, shootings and killings. Cantrell made no mention of Ferguson’s successor during her State of the City address Wednesday evening.
TV ANCHOR: Sheba Turk, the high-profile co-anchor of WWL-TV's popular “Eyewitness Morning News,” is moving on. Her last workday in New Orleans is scheduled Dec. 30, after which she’ll be a weekend anchor at KCAL in Los Angeles.
