Another game, another L for LSU

And on and on and on and on it goes.

The losing streak for LSU men's basketball reached 11 straight Wednesday night with a 64-53 setback at Mississippi State. The Tigers are now 12-12 and 1-10 in SEC play.

It didn't help that guard Trae Hannibal was unavailable because of an injury, but losing has become so baked into the equation for this LSU team one wonders if anything would have made a difference.

Meanwhile, arguably the biggest regular-season game in LSU women's basketball history draws closer as the Tigers prepare to take on No. 1-ranked South Carolina on Sunday (1 p.m. CST, ESPN) in Columbia, South Carolina. The Tigers are ranked No. 3 in the AP poll and No. 2 in the coaches' poll, making this the highest-ranked matchup in the NCAA era in LSU program history (since 1982).

The driving force behind the Tigers' meteoric rise to national relevance (23-0, 11-0 SEC) is coach Kim Mulkey. She's been a fighter her entire athletic career, a trait she has passed on to LSU in her two seasons here (combined record: 49-6).

LSU's No. 1-ranked baseball team opens its regular season next Friday. There is a big rules change coming down the pike in SEC play, and coach Jay Johnson weighs in on it.

A bit of football news for you as well with the Super Bowl set for Sunday between Kansas City and Philadelphia. A total of nine LSU players are heading to the NFL combine. Want to know which ones? Well, you're going to have to click on the link, won't you?

Finally, a couple of off beat and lighter items for you. Our features editor Jan Risher and photographer Hilary Scheinuk got a tour of Mulkey's impressive closet inside her South Baton Rouge home, and frankly you may not believe it. And LSU gymnast and social media sensation Olivia Dunne shows she doesn't take herself too seriously, posting her greatest hits (and we mean that literally) of practice pratfalls and mishaps. Dunne is finally cleared to compete after a leg injury (not related to the video), but it's still TBD to see if she will be in the lineup when LSU goes to face Auburn on the road Friday night (7:30 p.m., SEC Network).

Thanks for reading, for subscribing, and just for being you. You're the gymnastics mat beneath our uneven bars.

Until next time ...
