Good morning, and welcome to the Saints Insider newsletter for Thursday, Feb. 2. The Saints were one of the top defenses in the NFL last season, but they're losing top coaches on that side of the ball at a puzzling rate. Last week Ryan Nielsen left to become the defensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons. On Wednesday, the team's other co-defensive coordinator, Kris Richard, agreed to part ways with the club, sources said. Beat reporter Luke Johnson has the story. Here's the rest of our lineup of stories from Wednesday's news cycle: --Richard wasn't the only Saints assistant in the news. Quarterbacks coach Ronald Curry is a candidate for the offensive coordinator position with a rival NFC South team, Luke Johnson reports. --Three Saints assistant coaches met with the media on Wednesday and shared their thoughts on Sean Payton and his new job as the head coach of the Denver Broncos. They were universal in their praise of the former Saints head coach. --Saints scouts were working overtime at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., this week, and two Tulane prospects have quickly caught their eyes, beat reporter Terrin Waack reports. --And finally, I weighed in with a column about the legacy of former Saints head coach Sean Payton and why I think he should be revered and not reviled in New Orleans. That's it for today. Our Saints coverage team will have more daily coverage of the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., in the days ahead. Keep it locked here throughout the week as we'll have a team of reporters bringing you the latest from Mobile. Until next time, Jeff Duncan |
