Anticipating the I-10 apocalypse

with Matthew Albright | Assistant metro editor

Good morning! Here are some of our most interesting reads from yesterday.

"If it was easy it would have been done already"

In 2024, the state is going to shut down lanes of I-10 near the New Bridge for an expansion project. In the long term, it should help ease traffic, but in the short term it could be a real nightmare.

The state's top transportation official walked through what the closures will mean and what's being done to limit the headaches.

Another drilling pause?

Federal leases for oil and gas drilling are on pause — again — as President Joe Biden continues to fight a legal battle with conservative attorneys general, including Louisiana's Jeff Landry. It's a battle with high stakes for Louisiana, where the economy depends heavily on oil and gas.

Here's an explainer of the debate over climate change that is driving the controversy.

A deadly DUI and a debate over prison time

A Greensburg man pleaded guilty in 2012 to a DUI crash that killed seven people and was sentenced to 35 years in prison. But he's been trying to get time knocked off that sentence for good behavior.

His story illustrates how complicated a prison sentence in Louisiana can be.

Thanks for reading, and have a great day.
