View web version. ] | Apogee Rocketry Workshop #241: | The Mini-Condor is a small, competition-style boost glider rocket that we created for the NAR's National Rocket Championship series. In this third installment, you'll see how to reinforce the leading edge of the vertical tail so it will take the abuse of being scrapped along the ground every time it lands on the ground. You'll also learn how to attach the wing panels to the special wing dihedral saddle. This is an important step, because the saddle has to be oriented properly on the fuselage. You'll also adjust the fit of the saddle so that the wing stays temporarily attached to the fuselage when you go out and do test flights. What's special about this kit is that it's very easy to build because of its molded plastic wing-dihedral component. This special piece holds the wings at the perfect dihedral angle so that it always flies upright. It also has the proper angle-of-attack built into the part, so the glider will pull out of a dive and transition into a nice glide. To be honest, we borrowed the idea from the larger Condor Boost Glider - we just made it smaller so that it would be competitive against other fliers.
