Building the TTV Rocket - Part 2

Advanced Construction Video

This video covers the initial assembly of the electronics mounting board (called the ebay sled), which is one of the more challenging processes in the build of the TTV model rocket. In this video, there are two alignment rails installed on one end of the board, which help align the rear bulkhead on the sled. Finally, you'll add the half-bulkhead, which will align the red tube coupler, and also creates an engine baffle system to help protect the parachute.

The TTV rocket was created as a way for us to inexpensively test the Simple Timer. This electronic staging device is perfect for those that wish to stage composite propellant rocket motors. The TTV is a small-ish rocket that allows you to try out your timers and dual-deployment altimeters without using high-power motors. They can be tested on C and D size motors that are readily available.

Simple Timer For Staging

The new Simple Timer from Apogee Components controls ignition of upper stages by setting a time from liftoff when the air-started motor should ignite. Its built-in logic prevents ignition of the upper stage if the rocket goes unstable or is tilted more than 45° from vertical at the time of ignition. This new version of the device now includes an apogee deployment channel for extra safety, so you don't need a separate altimeter in the rocket. If you want to stage high power rockets, this is what you need. It is also great for high-drag rockets (like spools and pyramids shapes) that need a quick ejection at apogee.

Launch of the Week

Last Launch of LDRS

I missed LDRS this year because I was at the World SpaceModeling Championships in Austin, Texas. But I really wanted to get up to Wisconsin to see it.

So this simulation is my only flight of a rocket in conjunction with LDRS. So while I wasn't there physically, I could at least enjoy a simulated flight. This one shows an Apogee Katana on a K480W which reaches a height of 8135 feet.
