Apogee Rocketry Workshop #397

Building the TTV Rocket - Part 13

Advanced Construction Video

This is the final video in the construction of the "Timer Test Vehicle" (TTV) rocket. Previously, the electronics and the parachutes were attached, and in this final step we're prepping the rocket for launch by installing igniters that fire off the rocket motor, and the one firing off the apogee ejection charge. You'll see how the ejection charge is added to the rocket, and then how the upper body tube is affixed to the fin can using the removable plastic rivets. Finally the wadding and the parachutes are packed for flight and the rocket is readied for launch. If you'd like to see an actual launch, click here.

The TTV rocket was created as a way for us to inexpensively test the Simple Timer. This electronic staging device is perfect for those that wish to stage composite propellant rocket motors. The TTV is a small-ish rocket that allows you to try out your timers and dual-deployment altimeters without using high-power motors. They can be tested on C and D size motors that are readily available.

RockSim Live Training - Every Friday

Launch of the Week

Middle America Launch

Today, I picked the Black Brant VC rocket kit as our example model. We're launching it from the mid-power site of the club: The Heartland Organization of Rocketry in Nebraska. The rocket is being flown on a Quest C12-6 engine, and it reaches an altitude of 653 feet. On such a big launch site, we probably could have used a lot bigger motor. See the simulation in 3D here.

Customer Testimonials:Customer Comments

"My wife was looking for a way to bring some excitement to the residents of the assisted living community she manages. As there was an adjacent, open field I suggested launching a lower altitude model rocket - it was a big hit. This rekindled a passion in me to return to a hobby I had moved away from over 40 years ago. One of my desires was to ultimately obtain my Level 1 certification. Apogee is helping me to not only get back into the hobby, but their ongoing posts and information have helped me get connected with my local club and I will be scheduling my L1 certification launch this fall. Thank you Tim, and Apogee."

I'm now actively seeking writers for articles to appear in this newsletter. And I want unique and cutting-edge articles because that is what you want to read, right? I realize this, so to get articles from outside writers that have the same level of quality, I'm going to have to pay a lot of cash to make it worth it for them. So I've come up with a compensation package where I'll pay up to $350 for good how-to articles.

Are you a writer, and does that interest you? That is a lot of cash! Far more than you'll get by writing for other magazines. And with over 23,000 worldwide subscribers, if you write for the Peak-of-Flight Newsletter, you'll gain a lot of notoriety. Writing for the Peak-of-Flight Newsletter is a great way to show off your rocketry projects and your technical expertise, at the same time as helping out other rocketeers. Imagine how great you'll feel knowing that you made a difference to the hobby.
