No laptop has ever gotten this close to beating the M3 MacBook Air

The MacBook Air M3 is one of the best laptops available, but Asus' Lunar Lake-equipped Zenbook S 14 is challenging it

Asus’ Zenbook S 14 laptop comes with Intel’s new chipset — the Core Ultra Series 2, also know as Lunar Lake — and the powerful machine gives the impressive M3 MacBook Air a run for its money.

Digital Trends has compared the two laptops to see how they fare on multiple fronts, including design, performance, display, and portability. Performance-wise, those Lunar Lake chipsets are competing directly with Apple Silicon, and in Digital Trends’ benchmarks, the MacBook Air was "meaningfully faster" in three out of four tests.

But the Zenbook S 14 shines in other areas. Read on for the full comparison ...

Roborock sends the first robot vacuum into space

Roborock has introduced the Roborock S8 Max Series smart vacuums, consisting of two models: S8 MaxV Ultra and S8 Max Ultra. Although these two intelligent smart vacuums include a host of new innovative features, there’s something else that’s bigger and more awe-inspiring. In August 2024, the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra was launched into the upper stratosphere, becoming the first-ever smart vacuum in outer space. Just imagine it floating, weightlessly, high above the planet, maybe even cleaning some debris as it goes. It gives a whole new meaning to “out of this world,” at least when it comes to smart vacuums ...

Apple's AI 'more than two years behind the industry leaders'

Apple's own research has exposed a gulf between Siri and ChatGPT when it comes to raw AI intelligence and accuracy, a new report said

Some at Apple believe the company is “more than two years behind” the likes of OpenAI, Google, and Meta when it comes to generative-AI development, according to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Responses from OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot were reportedly 25% more accurate than Apple’s Siri in Apple’s own testing, and it was able to answer 30% more questions than the latest version of Apple’s smart assistant, which will launch soon with AI smarts. Apple has done a deal with OpenAI so that ChatGPT can help in areas where Siri falls short.

But Gurman added that no one should dismiss the tech giant’s AI efforts, as it has a history of excelling eventually ...

Pro-Ject’s Signature 12.2 turntable has an eye-watering price tag

The Pro-Ject Signature 12.2 turntable costs $15,000 and goes on sale next month

Pro-Ject has impressed with its budget and mid-range record players, but its new flagship is something else entirely, What Hi-Fi? reported.

For starters, it’s an extraordinary-looking machine, but just take a look at its price tag: $15,000. The Austrian company said the Signature 12.2 represents “the highest level of turntable technology at the most accessible price point possible.”

The machine for audiophiles weighs a whopping 37 kilograms (81 pounds) and has been specially designed to eliminate all outside interference and vibrations to give you the best audio experience possible, which is exactly what you'd want at that price ...

Smile 2 wins the weekend box office

And it managed to rake in more than the original earned on its debut weekend two years ago

Horror flick Smile 2 earned a respectable $23 million in its opening weekend, slightly more than the $22.6 million that the first installment took on its opening weekend in 2022, Variety reported.

Smile 2 sees Naomi Scott starring as a pop singer who begins to experience a series of disturbing events as she goes on tour. It currently has a 7.2 rating on IMDb and 83% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Universal and DreamWorks’ The Wild Robot remained in second place with $10 million in its fourth weekend of release, while A24’s weepy romantic drama, We Live in Time, enjoyed a strong debut with $4.1 million from just 955 theaters, helping it to fifth spot ...

GAMING

This mini gaming PC is a third of the size of a PS5 — and way more powerful

After spending a few weeks with it, the AtomMan G7 Ti is 'easy to recommend'

The AtomMan G7 Ti comes out well in Digital Trends’ hands-on review of the gaming PC, with plus points including its “shockingly fast” speed, small size, absence of bloatware, and reasonable starting price of $1,159.

The machine is described as being capable of going toe-to-toe with the best desktop PCs out there, thanks in part to its powerful 24-core Core i9-14900HX processor and RTX 4070 graphics card.

The AtomMan G7 Ti does, however, fall short in several areas, with the review noting a need for more USB ports and a tendency for the machine's fans to get a bit loud under load ...
