In Apple's Holiday Ad, Tierra Whack and Her Tiny Twin Show Off the Potent HomePod Mini

OK, we're officially past Thanksgiving (we hope you had a wonderful—and safe—holiday), so it's now time to focus on holiday sales (more on the results of shopping's biggest weekend below). Over the holiday weekend, several big ads dropped including Apple, which tapped rising rap star Tierra Whack and a miniature version of herself to show off the HomePod Mini. Watch it here.

More holiday ads:

  • Xfinity followed up last year's classic ET sequel with some more star power, having Steve Carell play a Santa who is completely over 2020 and wants to deliver special gifts this year. Watch it here.
  • French grocery chain Intermarche departed from its typical holiday tone for an emotional spot honoring healthcare workers and caretakers. Watch it here.

A Record-Setting Cyber Week Continues With a $9 Billion Black Friday

With crowds lacking across the country on Black Friday, Americans took to the internet to make their holiday purchases. Here's a few datapoints to know:

  • Americans spent $9 billion on Black Friday. That's a record for Black Friday—and the second biggest U.S. shopping day ever behind last year's Cyber Monday.
  • Americans spent $5.1 billion on Thanksgiving. That's also a record.
  • On Black Friday, 40% of purchases were on mobile.

Read our analysis: Despite financial woes, Americans shopped early, perhaps because consumers are aware that shopping close to Christmas this year may not mean their gifts will arrive in time.
