 April 12 evening update: The latest on the coronavirus and Maine

As of 10:30 a.m. Sunday, the Maine CDC has confirmed 633 positive cases for the novel coronavirus in the state.

Of those total patients, 120 have been hospitalized at some point during their illness and 266 have recovered.

The death toll from the virus in Maine stands at 19.

The only county without a confirmed case is Piscataquis.

Here’s the latest on the coronavirus and Maine.

— It’s been a month since the state reported its first coronavirus case. Here’s what happened since.

— The Augusta Center for Health and Rehabilitation has seen a rapid spike in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases, with nearly two-thirds of residents now infected. Forty-one residents and 14 staff members have tested positive for COVID-19. That’s up from four confirmed cases reported on Friday. One resident who tested positive for COVID-19 has died.

— As the COVID-19 pandemic has forced gathering places, such as churches, to close their doors, observing Easter took a different form this year for many.

Maine is relaxing key rules for needle exchanges and methadone clinics so people with substance use disorder can continue receiving medication and other services while coming into contact with others less often.

—As of 5 p.m. Sunday, the coronavirus has sickened 550,016 people in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands and the U.S. Virgin Island, as well as caused 21,733 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University of Medicine.

— Elsewhere in New England, there have been 22,860 cases and 686 deaths in Massachusetts, 11,510 cases and 494 deaths in Connecticut, 2,665 cases and 63 deaths in Rhode Island, 727 cases and 27 deaths in Vermont and 929 cases and 23 deaths in New Hampshire, according to the New York Times.
